How to Create a Comfortable Productive Home Office

February 9, 2010 by Pat Heydlauff

Cindy emailed me a question in my Feng Shui Connection Advice Column at http://SearchWarp.com/Advice-Columns/Feng-Shui-Connection that I thought would actually be interesting and helpful to a number of you.

The qeustion from Cindy was: “What kind of advice can you give me on decorating a home office? I want it to be a place of productivity and energy but to also not stand out from the rest of the home. How should the furniture be arranged? We have a lot of cords from computers, printers and the like and the mess of it all makes me crazy! Any advice you can offer on creating an environment that is comfortable but productive would be great!

This is a dilemma faced by many of you whether you work outside of the home and the home office is part of your support system or whether the home office is your primary place of business. My answer follows.

When putting together a home office two things are important before you begin placing furniture. One: make sure all clutter is out of the room so positive energy can circulate in the room. This prevents stagnant energy from collecting in corners and in stacks of stuff, getting in the way of your prosperity. Removing the clutter will also help you be more efficient, effective and productive. Two: make the home office a different color from the remainder of your home but be careful to keep it the same value so the energy will properly flow into the room. Good colors for an office are soft green to energize new business and income or a soft peach or pastel earth tone colors to create great relationship energy with clients, old and new.

Once you have properly prepared the room, dedicate its use for business only. Do not try to keep it as an optional guest room that will distract from the intent of the room. If this is the room you will be using to earn your living, it must be properly decorated to energize income and prosperity not the energy of visiting family and friends. At times, the room can double for that purpose but should be decorated and laid out primarily to support you and your work. The most important piece of furniture is the desk. Place the desk opposite the door so you have full view of the door or as a second option, a good peripheral view of it. Then, lay everything else in your office out for convenience and ease of use. If more than one person will be working in the same office place the desks back to back to hide all of the cords. If only one person is using the desk be creative and hide the cords with some of the new decorative cord savers or artistically place a decorative half screen to hide them – even a lateral file can hide many cords and be functional at the same time.

There are a number of other Feng Shui principles you could apply but this gives you some of the basics. If you’d like further information I’ve written various articles on this subject that you can find on SearchWarp. Also, a full chapter in my book Feng Shui, So Easy a Child Can Do It available at www.energy-by-design.com  is devoted to the office should you want more information. Take time to deliberatly plan an office whre you will be more efficient, effective, productive and profitable

Transform Your Surroundings to Improve Your Prosperity

February 1, 2010 by Pat Heydlauff

Are you running on almost empty when it comes to encouragement, motivation and self-confidence? Has self-empowerment fled the scene leaving you drained, alone and discouraged?

You are not alone. According to a study by Gallup-Healthways, stress is spiraling upward as the economy continues its uncertainty. This trend began in the last quarter the 2008, continued through 2009 and fast-forwarded right into 2010. Over 21% of those surveyed don’t know how they are going to pay medical expenses and those between 30 and 55 years old are suffering the most and don’t know how they are going to make their next house payment. To make matters worse, personal support systems for encouragement and strength are also jumping ship.

The good news is you don’t have to be a victim. You can take control of your life by transforming your surroundings using Feng Shui principles and apply those same principles to your thought process – the result, transformed thinking, a return of self-empowerment and improved prosperity.  more

6 Steps to a Clutter-free Computer and a More Productive You

According to the National Association of Professional Organizations, research shows a direct correlation between productivity and clutter. When clutter and chaos are on the rise, profits and productivity decline.

While the mantra of the day may be “go paperless” that doesn’t mean your computer should take over your life, become electronic clutter and take control of your time while you become less efficient, effective and productive.

A clutter-free desktop reduces stress and frustration while increasing concentration and creative thinking. The same rule applies to the information in your computer. Too much inaccessible information helps add to the stress of the daily grind. “Go paperless” to help the environment but if you want to be more successful, also “go clutter-free” on your computer.   more
